Sobre mí

Comienzo por presentarme.

Mi nombre es Jorge.

Tengo actualmente 54 años; divorciado. Vivo solo y sin hijos. Nací en Madrid, y desde hace un año, vivo en Ciudad Real.

Soy enfermero desde 1997; estudié en la Escuela de Enfermería de Ciempozuelos (provincia de Madrid), perteneciente a los Hermanos de San Juan de Dios.

Trabajo en emergencias extrahospitalarias desde 1999, tanto en ambulancias de soporte vital avanzado como en helicóptero de emergencias.

Voluntario de Cruz Roja desde hace muchos años, en el programa de Transporte Sanitario. Mi última vivencia y colaboración con Cruz Roja fue en diciembre de 2024. Una semana en la isla de El Hierro, tratando de ayudar y atender a los cientos de inmigrantes que llegaban cada noche.

Siempre he estado interesado en la Cooperación Internacional. También en 2024, gracias al entorno de los Hermanos de San Juan de Dios, así como su Fundación descubrí Africa; concretamente Ghana.

Estuve poco más de un mes en la urgencia del hospital de San Juan de Dios, a las afueras de Accra, y viviendo con los Hermanos de esta orden..

Esta experiencia me marcó tanto y de forma tan positiva, que mi mirada desde aquel entonces está puesta en Africa.

En mayo de 2025 viaje a Togo y Ghana por quince días.

Y en septiembre de 2025 volví nuevamente a Ghana, donde nuevamente estuve casi dos meses en el hospital al que me he referido antes. Esta vez fue por dos meses. Estuve una semana en otro hospital, concretamente en Asafo donde también estuve en la urgencia.

En marzo de 2026, dos semanas en Senegal, concretamente en Fatick; también con los Hermanos de San Juan de Dios. Si bien estoy en un proceso de reflexión y camino personal, toda vivencia es positiva. En Fatick, la experiencia en el hospital dedicado a pacientes con patología psiquiátrica, ha sido enriquecedora.

Y cuál es mi propósito en Africa; sin expectativas. Solamente ayudar donde me digan, y de la forma que me digan. Aportar los cuidados necesarios como enfermero, y tratar de estar al lado de los enfermos, los niños y los que sufren.

 

 

About myself

I’ll start by introducing myself.

My name is Jorge.

I am currently 54 years old and divorced. I live alone and have no children. I was born in Madrid, and for the past year I have been living in Ciudad Real.

I have been a nurse since 1997; I trained at the Ciempozuelos School of Nursing (in the province of Madrid), run by the Brothers of St John of God.

I have been working in out-of-hospital emergency care since 1999, both in advanced life support ambulances and on emergency helicopters.

I have been a Red Cross volunteer for many years, working on the Medical Transport programme. My most recent experience and collaboration with the Red Cross was in December 2024. A week on the island of El Hierro, trying to help and care for the hundreds of migrants arriving every night.

I have always been interested in international cooperation. Also in 2024, thanks to the Brothers of St John of God and their Foundation, I discovered Africa; specifically Ghana.

I spent just over a month in the A&E department of the St John of God Hospital, on the outskirts of Accra, living with the Brothers of this order.

This experience had such a profound and positive impact on me that, ever since then, my focus has been on Africa.

In May 2025, I travelled to Togo and Ghana for a fortnight.

And in September 2025, I returned to Ghana once more, where I spent nearly two months at the hospital I mentioned earlier. This time it was for two months. I spent a week at another hospital, specifically in Asafo, where I also worked in the A&E department.

In March 2026, I spent two weeks in Senegal, specifically in Fatick; again with the Brothers of St John of God. Although I am currently on a journey of personal reflection and growth, every experience has been positive. In Fatick, my time at the hospital dedicated to patients with psychiatric conditions has been enriching.

And what is my purpose in Africa? I have no expectations. Simply to help wherever I am told, and in whatever way I am told. To provide the necessary care as a nurse, and to try to be there for the sick, the children and those who are suffering.
